Recovery Resources for Survivors with Disabilities

  • The Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies has a disaster hotline for survivors with disabilities: (800) 626-4959. They also have great resources on ensuring disability inclusion before, during, and after disasters.
  • Are you appealing FEMA's determination on assistance and have a disability? Or are you an attorney or advocate helping someone with their FEMA appeal? Pro Bono Net's FEMA Appeals Interactive Tool to create an appeal letter can help. Pro Bono Net worked with Disability Rights Texas to incorporate questions that address the needs of survivors with disabilities. Answers to the questions in the interactive interview are input into a form letter that a survivor can save to their computer and print out for submission to FEMA as an appeal.
  • Disability Issues in Disaster Recovery: This session by Equal Justice Works details best practices for serving persons with disabilities in recovery from disasters. Panelists provide practical advice for issue spotting and advocacy tips in education, healthcare, and housing.
